Interesting split record. Shave The Area are making a bit of a name for themselves with their past couple of releases, Lavotchkin, Break The Sky and Surviving The Sunset have all been good CD’s, here they pit The Brides Wore Blood and Rise Of Raphia against Attack Ships On Fire Records own Today it Ends and The Nx.

The Brides Wore Blood kick of first with their take on the punky, screamo sound. Sorta like Alexisonfire without the whole melodic vocal angle. Their 2 tracks show promise.

The Rise of Raphia are certainly indebted to Norma Jean whose influence hangs heavy over their 2 tracks which isn’t a bad thing. It’s all about the bellowed roar and spastic guitars.

The Nx seem to be lacking something. Despite competently played and executed, their mix of ETID noise and rocking hardcore seems a bit forced.

Today Ends finish it all of with some nasty sounding metalcore that is let down slightly by the production but still has the aggression you need from it.

All in all, not bad at all. Shave The Area take the crown for their side of the split. But there is a lot of promise in these 8 tracks. Keep your eye out.
