Details:
Cartoons were never a big thing in my childhood; the parents just didn’t want me watching ‘rubbish’ TV. As such the Transformers movie doesn’t really excite me as much as it probably should. Maybe also because it’s also got Michael Bay directing it, but I digress, I imagine that it will be a rather large success because there are an awful lot of people who cannot wait for it.
So then, soundtracks are always a bit of a money spinner but I cannot really fathom why anyone would buy this one, as there is very little exclusive about this or new about this. I mean it’s even got four tracks that aren’t even in the movie. I guess this is what the ‘inspired by’ section covers. While it’s got a decent selection of current rock artists, I find it hard to believe that anyone who’s heard of Taking Back Sunday won’t have heard of The Used. The problem with it all is that it only really acts as a commercial vehicle for the franchise rather than being of any real musical interest.
Starting off we get some new tracks from usual suspects Linkin Park and (Please help promote the fact we’ve got a new album out) Smashing Pumpkins. Both are okay but the chances are if you’re a fan of either band you’ll have heard the songs. Things continue with Disturbed (Unfortunately) and the sensitive moment with the Goo Goo Dolls. So blatantly obviously designed for a love scene it hurts a little. Styles of Beyond featuring Mike Shinoda is the first little bit of difference and novelty with an aggressive rap track.
The rest, well you can see for yourself in the track listing. I apologise for the slightly lazy review but when a soundtrack is as lazily put together as this one it does not deserve my time. It’s a decent enough collection of tracks but there’s nothing really here that screams at you to listen to it.
