Details:
36 songs, just think about that for a second and then try and think how YOU would sum up 36 songs, by 36 different bands without writing about every single song, but covering enough to give other readers the idea of what’s going on here and is it worthy of their hard cash! Tricky isn’t it. But damn you, it’s me that has to do it. Bah.
When “The Best Of Taste Of Chaos” arrived I wrote it off as a pile of screaming hardcore bollocks, and whilst some of that may ring true the chaps and chapettes at Warcon Entertainment have taken the “best” literally for once and not just chosen the most upto date current songs by bands. For instance Thrice’s “Stare At The Sun” is not taken from their disappointing new album, but instead from it’s blinding predecessor and in choosing this song they have chosen a winner. Again fellow labelmates Thursday have entered an older tune “I Wanna Hear Another Fast Song” and this plays out well.
Unfortunately Matchbook Romance lend “In Transit For You” off their acoustic split with Motion City Soundtrack and it was fairly rubbish and bland the first time around. If only they’d put in the pop-punk with an edge spectacular that is “Promise”. Emery have clearly been listening to the My Chemical Romance bible on how to bust into the mainstream and maybe followed the guidelines too strictly as they end up ripping off their brothers in rock. Until I looked at the track listing just now I thought track 10 off disk one was Taking Back Sunday, seriously. I now realise that Bleed The Dream have simply rewound time and play a track that could easily be lifted from the eponymous Taking Back Sunday debut. Lets get music evolving, not rehashed!
Fear Before The March Of Flames are one of the worst bands I have ever heard. Absolute gob-shite. Dark New Day love the power chord and in doing so take the nu-metal road along side Linkin Park. Wrong turn fellas.
So with disk one out of the way the second disk has suddenly become a war zone where no melody is allowed to thrive and instead gets nuked out of the way with blast beats, ninja kicks and hardcore screams. Fuck. You love your metal, maybe on the slightly more nu-screamo style? You’ll adore disk two. If you love melody and hate faux-screaming (Like me) then disk two maybe like a walk through hell with hot pokers in your eyeballs.
However to be fair at least their offering diversity in the music on offer. Unfortunately disk two doesn’t cater for me at all, but if you can find this at a cheap price I’d bet you may well discover some new talent you might not else be aware of. A very solid and expansive compilation.
