Murdering Disco (Single)

Diarmaid O’Meara

Yet another release from prolific Irish techno don Diarmaid O’Meara, the first of six (on six different labels) he’ll be putting out over the summer.

‘Murdering Disco’ is released by his usual home, Gobsmacked, and his previous 12”s and album for them have made O’Meara popular with Radio 1’s Huw Stephens, key dance stations and festivals across Europe and ‘M8’ magazine.

This single is more low-end than his previous ones, with dubstep and drum & bass influences coming to the fore, although O’Meara does do his usual drink of blending genres together - as long as their danceable: a growling dubstep throb, glitch beats, stuttering breaks and his familiar multicoloured techno. It builds and collapses into a Balearic shimmer over and over for seven minutes and leaves your head swimming (in a good way).

The B-side, ‘Disco Murderer’, is barely distinguishable from ‘Murdering Disco’, so it’s fortunate that the latter is so good.
