Electric High (Single)
Elliot Minor have never been the most credible band around, after all, their big break came when they won a support slot for McFly, but in truth their self titled debut album offered more than the ’matured Busted’ that the singles suggested.
Whilst their pop-rock beginnings will continue to linger over their career, with festival slots at Download and Reading/Leeds it’s clear their ambitions are to appeal to an edgier audience.
New single ’Electric High’ is a small step to achieving this goal, with classically trained musicians in their ranks, a grander, more mature sound was inevitable and this song marries that with the poppier sound that gave them moderate success first time round. The verses flow along nicely before erupting into a soaring chorus. Frontman Alex Davies displays a good vocal range, adding richness to the chorus whilst maintaining a necessary delicacy during the quieter verses, even threatening at times to break into some Matt Bellamy style vocal gymnastics.
In truth, this is pretty good, whilst it’s unlikely to silence the doubters it’ll hopefully act as a gateway for young music fans to further investigate rock music, which can only be a good thing.
