If asked to suggest a hotbed of screamo activity, you might say Norway, or France, you might suggest the USA or even maybe London.
It’s probably fairly likely, I suspect, that you wouldn’t mention Norwich. In fact I can’t think of many instances in which you WOULD mention Norwich, other than to describe the hometown of the subject of this review - Maths.
As you may have guessed, Maths could nominally be called a screamo band. I don’t want to repeat everything I said in my earlier review of Dominic, but much of what I said there applies here - Maths are another band that really do transcend the limits of the genre. Veering from vitriolic and powerful waves of emotion to quiet, introspective passages over the 30 odd minutes of this 12 track album (which actually flows as a single piece of music, with no breaks between tracks) Maths manage to grab you from the very first minute until you emerge gasping for breath at the very end.
