Reading the label blurb attached to this CD I must admit to being a bit sceptical, after all the term ’gameboy power poppers’ was used. My first question was ’What does that actually mean?’. After listening to the track, the term begins to make sense, the power pop is self explanatory, it describes their pop-punk lite well. The gameboy surely refers to the synthesisers which give the band a vaguely futuristic sound without overpowering the song.

Whilst sometimes the ’rough and ready’ production works well for early releases, for a band that sound as Amy Can Flyy do good production is a must. Jolyon Vaughan Thomas (We Were Promised Jetpacks) does a sterling job putting everything together. The vocals are crisp and clean along with the synths and guitars complementing each other perfectly. The song flyys by, kicking off with a synth heavy intro before settling into a soft/loud verse-chorus pattern. The end product mixes a bit of All Time Low (the chorus reminds me Poppin’ Champagne) with Enter Shikari, and whilst that may not sound like everyone’s cup of tea, it works for me.
