Having enjoyed their last album “Adventures in Freestyle” and been amazed it wasn’t a bigger success, I was looking forward to this 3 track E.P. As a taster for the forthcoming album it doesn’t disappoint, classic get-your-groove-on breakbeats.
“Cracks” sounds like “Zombie Nation” by Kernkraft on first listen, but breaks into a sweet vocal from Belle Humble and it kicks back into the beat. It could be a huge club hit, but it’s not breaking any new ground. “This City” is Baby-D(ubstep) and dare I say it, there seems to be a bit of a “donk” going on, this should be all over the radio, the kids would dig it. Whilst previous albums have been more a “journey in sound”, cutting up samples mixed with breakbeats in a more hip-hop style, only the track “Bounce To This” hails back to that style. Big beats and a reggae skank with a call and response chorus, you can’t help but do what you’re told! DJ Erin sample as well...BOOM! Yes sir, I came to party and I came to dance.
A welcome return from the Freestylers - make sure you look out for the new album.
