Patrick Wolf looks like he’d give Julian Cope a run for his money in the fried fashion stakes. The sleeve of this, the third single from his album The Bachelor, has him looking like an acid casualty from Highlander. Musically, there’s more than a whiff of the glens, too, with a light Gothic overtone, like a postcard from Whitby. The aim is apparently for a modern take on an English Romeo and Juliet story but it’s more Wuthering Heights. It’s mostly a success, too, although I was expecting more darkness, drama and histrionics. Perhaps Mr. Wolf needs to spend more time in the studio and a bit less in the dressing-up box.
