Flashes of inspiration from this Smoke-based Scot, with more than a little disingenuous comparison in his blurb. Johnny Cash and Nick Drake? Try Beck and Fran Healy, then you’d be closer. Home and In The Dark are the stand-outs: the former lopes along in the aforementioned Hansen-style, the latter an intimate acoustic breath. The remainder take us no further, really, with Lying To Get On Your Good Side of note only for its co-writer credit for one Ed Harcourt and its strange, school-panto delivery. At pains to appear enigmatic, but I think the jury’s still having a pish on that one.
