Greetings from Levy Park T.L.H.
Just in case you don’t know (apparently there are non-Springsteen fans out there) the cover to this EP is very much an homage to Bruce Springsteen’s Greetings from Asbury Park N.J.
There are hints of the Boss in these songs, but there’s actually more of a garage rock feeling here. Think modern bands like The Strokes or The Hives, as well as genre standards like The Rolling Stones.
It’s pretty good too. There’s an element of bombast all too familiar to Springsteen fans that gives this an ebullient edge that helps it to transcend the shackles of what is otherwise a rather stagnant and often lacklustre genre. Despite these moments of brilliance, the EP as a whole is solid rather than spectacular - a satisfying experience, but ultimately lacking in the substance to make a true classic.
