World Painted Blood

‘If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’ goes the proverb.

If the ‘it’ in question is the music of Slayer, any attempts to ‘fix’ would be met with breakage of a distinctly more painful kind. The band have, in the past, tried messing with the formula to no avail. There are no surprises, here and, to be honest, I don’t think Slayer do ‘surprises’. They do Slayer and that should be enough for anyone. Psychopathy Red, Unit 731 (Google it but not just before dinner) and single Hate Worldwide are perhaps the stand-outs but it’s churlish to pick a few from this boiling mass of vitriol and thunder.

Having been in the game since the beginning and still being the standard against which any similar band are judged must warrant some kind of giant monument, somewhere. Perhaps another mountain could be found for a blackened version of Mount Rushmore, fires constantly playing around the foothills? Or perhaps something more subtle for their advancing years, like an inverted steel cross impaling the Statue of Liberty through the forehead? Here’s to the UK tour. I’ll try not to break anything, this time.
