I really liked the first Wallis Bird album, Spoons.
It had a lovely hippieish charm to it. Wallis herself has said that she expects this album to shock people, and it’s very different to her debut - and she’s not wrong. I want to really like it, and indeed in a lot of places I actually do, but I just can’t shake the feeling that it all sounds a bit like Joss Stone. There’s even a song that sounds a bit like a subpar Pussycat Dolls, and that’s really not that good of a sound.
The songs that really shine are the ones that are a little bit quirky and odd, where Wallis’s personality shines through, but sadly these are outnumbered by the rather uninspiring overproduced pop rock. It’s still better than most of that style but... That’s still not very good.
